Are we worrying about inflation too soon?

OPINION: Unmasked English football fans rioting and lobbing racist taunts at each other is a depressing sign of a world returning to normal, but when it comes to the issue of inflation our concerns are very different to the ones we had pre-pandemic.

As countries start opening up, the world is talking about inflation in a way it hasn’t in recent years. New Zealand is no exception.

On Wednesday, we should get a statement from the Reserve Bank about monetary policy. We are unlikely to see any major change from it, but moves around inflation and the official cash rate will be keenly watched.

Globalisation opened us up to a world with few constraints, but Covid-19 put those constraints back on and the strain is showing.
